Harry Potter
and the Half-Blood Prince

The young magician Harry Potter (he has got a big scar on his forehead) is a pupil in the magician school of Hogwarts. His biggest enemy is the bad magician Voldemort. Harry appears to be of importance for the good magicians, since the myth says that he sometimes will be killing Voldemort.

The Prime Minister talks about “Voldemort” or ”He who must not be named”. He found out, that Voldemort still is alive and kills one witch after the other.
Draco’s mother, Nacissia, is afraid that her son could die because of Voldemort’s plan. Severus Snape, Voldemort’s spy and teacher in Hogwarts, promises her to have a look for Draco, but the good magicians do not know that Snape is evil.
Hogwarts headmaster Dumbledor picks up Harry from his home to take him to the Weasley’s. On the way he informs Harry that he will give some extra lessons and that it is important for Harry to always have the invisible cloak with him. Hermione, Harry’s and Ron Weasley’s friend is also there. They talk about the suspicion that Draco might be a Death Eater like his father was.
On the train back to Hogwarts Harry takes his invisible cloak to listen to Draco who tells his two friends Crabbe and Goyle about Voldemort and that he maybe will be his next pupil. This is the confirmation for Harry that Draco is willing to become a Death Eater.
Because Harry did not know that he has any potion lessons he has no book on this subject. By courtesy Professor Slughorn gives him one, without knowing that this book is full of scribbles, which are describing an easier way to make potions. Later Harry wins a Lucky Potion, by using the book. He reads the book and finds out that it was written by “The Half-Blood Prince”. Hermione suspects the book to be bad, but Harry does not but wants to find out more about the Half-Blood Prince.
At his first lesson with Dumbledor Harry learns a lot about Voldemort which will be very important for Harry later on.
One time Harry tries out a non verbal spell from the book of the Half-Blood Prince. The result is that all in the sleeping room start flying.
Later Harry uses his invisible cloak to listen to Snape and Draco, having a discussion about Voldemort`s plan. He warns him not to risk too much because then he will not be able to protect Draco, as promised to his mother.
Although Harry tells Dumbledor the story about Snape and Draco, he still trusts Snape. Dumbledor shows Harry a memory about Voldemort’s past but it is not complete and he wants Harry to find out the rest of the story through Professor Slughorn. Slughorn claims not knowing more than Harry and Dumbledor.
Drinking a few drops of the Lucky Potion Harry has the chance to meet Slughorn while he drinks alcohol. Due to the fact that Slughorn is filled up with alcohol he tells Harry the missing memory and Harry is sure that Slughorn will not remember this.
Harry tells Dumbledor about the memory: Slughorn spoke with Tom Riddle - now Voldemort - about Horcruxes. (With this you can split up your soul.) Dumbledor thinks that Voldemort has made his soul into six peaces.
Dumbledor still believes in the goodness of Snape and trusts him. He assures Harry that everything is in save.
They leave Hogwarts to enter a cave where they expect to find a Lucky Potion from which Dumbledor thinks it is one of the Voldemort’s Horcruxes. Although it is very hard, Dumbledor drinks the potion.
Back in Hogwarts they see a big mark in the sky made by the Death Eaters. Harry is invisible when they enter the school building. Suddenly Draco appears in front of Dumbledor and disarms him. Dumbledore sees Snape coming and thinks that he is safe, but without an advance warning, Snape attacks and kills him.
From now on Harry definitely knows that Snape, who could escape from Hogwarts, is the Half-Blood prince.
Harry finds out that Snape’s father was muggle-born and only his mother was a witch. So Snape is a half-blood who tried to get a full-blood like Voldemort himself has done when he was a half-blood.
Harry is about to find other Horcruxes from Voldemort to destroy them. Ron and Hermione promise to help.

Personal opinion:
I found the book very interesting and thrilling. Only some scenes were a bit boring to read. I have also read the previous Harry Potter books and I think that this is not the best. Sometimes I could feel the emotions of the characters and some scenes were so sad that I nearly cried. That was very impressing.
All in all I enjoyed reading this book!
