The Outsiders

Main Characters:
Ponnyboy, the girl who is telling the story, and yes, Ponnyboy is her real name! She is the only girl in the gang and she is going to get seventeen years old.
Sodapop, also called Soda, is the older brother form Ponnyboy and works at a gasoline station.
Darry has got a lot of muscles and bright shoulders.
Steve Randle, seventeen, and Soda’s best buddy. He is very good in repairing cars.
Two Bit, most of the others had forgotten his real name Keith. He is six feet tall and has an every time grin in his face. He is 18 years old.
Johnny Cade, who is often described as a little dark puppy which has been kicked too often had a bad past, because his father had beaten him when he was a little child.
The Story:
The Story takes place somewhere in America!
They all (called the greasers) have got one big enemy, the socs. The socs are all bigger, older, and stronger than the greasers and they often have a lot of fights with the greasers, and they also have rules during the fights like: no weapons!
One day Ponnyboy and Johnny go away together and meet some members from the socs. Ponnyboy and Johnny get beaten up till Johnny fights back real hard. So Johnny kills Bob unintentional. The two kids run away. First the run to a friend who gives Johnny a gun and then they search a hiding place. They also cut their hair. They get a bit help from their friends and after some time they want to come back. But on the way back a church starts to burn and Johnny and Ponnyboy run into the church and rescue the children, which are in. After that Johnny has a 3rd grade burn and Ponnyboy is also a bit hurt, so an ambulance comes and brings them to a hospital. There the other greasers hear that Johnny’s back is also broken, and that he may die or be paralysed for the rest of his life. The greasers have another fight with the socs and this time they win the fight. The greasers run to the hospital to tell Johnny the good news. After he heard that he dies. He had given his live to rescue the children’s life.
When the police comes, Dally took his gun (it was not load, but the police did not know that) and a police officer shoots him.
Ponnyboy comes to a judge, to find out where she is going to live till she is 18. She gets to her brother Sodapop.
Personal Opinion:
I think that the book is real great. During reading the book I was really thrilled because it had a lot of changes and I could not know what will happen next. Sometimes it is also a bit sad, in special the end of the book.
It was also very easy to understand. I have already recommended the book to my mum, but I am not sure if she is going to read it and if she will appreciate me for the book. Maybe I will also recommend the book to someone, who is going to make holidays, because it is very pleasant to read and the theme – gang reveals – is very interesting.
